Process Audit

Purpose

For companies that want to reduce their IT operational costs within their datacentres, Enigmatec provides a methodology that involves some brief up front discovery to identify the scale of the potential savings from implementing automation. This then provides some metrics which are fed into Enigmatec's customer validated TCO model, from which an organisation can quickly see whether it makes sense to take this further.

There are six areas of the IT infrastructure that Enigmatec can automate, those being virtual server, physical server, storage, network, desktop and BCP (disaster recovery). The audit involves Enigmatec spending a day on site meeting the key stake holders involved in the end to end process for managing and provisioning the requests for capacity for that particular platform. The required data that is collected is then fed into Enigmatec's TCO model and the business case can be calculated.

The main purpose of the audit is to initially understand if there is a sufficient business case before both parties invest further time and effort in Run Book Automation. It avoids the common situation of evaluating the software in a POC and then discovering that the potential savings aren't sufficient enough to justify the license and implementation costs.

Process

Enigmatec has experience in proving and subsequently delivering a quick ROI (Return On Investment) in various area(s) of Data Centre Automation

For example:

  • Virtual and Physical Provisioning (Unix / Wintel )
  • Storage Provisioning
  • Network Provisioning
  • Desktop Provisioning
  • Business Continuity

When looking at an automation strategy, it is generally recommended that a phased approach be taken to addressing the applicable areas.

Identifying these can usually be achieved by having a 60 Minute session with someone such as a senior architect that appreciates the most immediate areas of concern within the data centre.

Following on from this a more focused set of meetings would be requested to help gather information to build a clearer picture of where value can be delivered in the timeliest fashion.

For instance, if it was decided that managing the sprawl of the Virtual Environment is the priority. Then meeting with the individuals that can help illustrate the current process and the resultant loss in productivity would be requested. This would typically only take a day once these people have been identified.
