Nationwide Turns To Enigmatec and VMware To Automate And Accelerate Development and Test

Leading UK Financial Institution Adopts Joint Enigmatec and VMware Solution to Increase Developer Productivity While Maintaining IT Control

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., – May 21, 2007 – Enigmatec Corporation,a leader in policy-based automation solutions for the on-demand enterprise and a member of the VMware Technology Alliance Program, today announced that Nationwide Building Society, the UK’s seventh largest financial services provider, has selected a combined Enigmatec and VMware solution to better manage and orchestrate its software development and test functions. The solution has enabled Nationwide to dramatically increase developer productivity by automating the setup and provisioning of developer environments on demand by leveraging VMware virtual machines, while still enabling IT to manage and control the process through pre-defined policies.

Using Enigmatec’s policy-based automation platform together with VMware Infrastructure 3, the third generation of the industry-leading infrastructure virtualization software suite, Nationwide is now able to provision and deploy a complete development environment in just 15 minutes, down from a previous time of two hours. The solution, which is described in detail in the IDC whitepaper, “Policy Based Automation for Dynamic Virtual Environments” (January 2007), enables systems administrators to efficiently manage Nationwide’s deployment of more than 3000 virtual machines from a centralized portal.

“The joint Enigmatec and VMware solution has provided our developers with an on-demand, self-service portal for provisioning and maintaining thousands of virtual machines, which has both increased developer productivity by 25% and significantly reduced the workload of our system administrators,” said Peter West, enterprise architect at Nationwide. “With this industry-leading solution, we have dramatically lowered support and administrative costs while accelerating time to market for new projects.”

“The needs of corporate developers, who are looking for ever greater resource access and productivity, are often directly opposed to the needs of their IT support teams, who must have operational command and control over development environments to meet IT and business objectives,” observed Indra Mohan, CEO of Enigmatec Corporation. “The Enigmatec and VMware solution has enabled Nationwide to satisfy the needs of both groups; providing on-demand, self-service access to developers, and strict policy-based monitoring and control for IT support teams.”

“With the widespread adoption of virtualization in mainstream IT, more and more customers are using automation technologies on virtual machines to ease the management of complex business applications”, said Brian Byun, vice president of global partners and solutions at VMware. "Nationwide’s deployment of VMware Infrastructure 3, along with the policy-based automation software from Enigmatec, is a showcase for companies seeking to leverage policy-based tools to automate the management of VMware virtualized platforms.”
