Disaster Recovery
Disaster Recovery is most often described as the ability to recover from the loss of a complete site, whether due to natural disaster or malicious intent.
Typical disaster recovery strategies include replication and backup/restore. However, these strategies only deal with the recovery and resynchronization of data.
Enigmatec Automated Disaster Recovery automates the traditionally manual process of coordinating the reconstruction of the application stack in conjunction with the data recovery tools.
Enigmatec Automated Disaster Recovery leverages the unique abilities of the Enigmatec Management System to:
- Topologically map the IT systems
- Manage relationships and dependencies between components in the IT system stack
- Meet and stay within service level objectives set by the business
- Automated command and control of processes and procedures (via Run Book Automation workflows) that define how the IT system stack should be reconstituted upon approved remediation of a critical failure
- Works with all existing replication and backup/restore technology. i.e. Veritas NetBackup, 3Par RemoteCopy, EMC Recoverpoint.
Enigmatec Automated Disaster Recovery comes with a complete set of recovery management tools:
- Real-time Fault Detection: Looking for pre-defined patterns of events (time and sequence) coming from the IT system stack, ADR will notify pre-identified IT operations staff when a pattern occurs.
- Management Dashboard: A view into the status and performance of SLO’s for the systems under ADR management at all sites.
- Approval Management: ADR acknowledges that human remediation is still an important step in decision making process. Approval schemes can be setup in ADR to efficiently seek approval for an ADR recommended course of action.
- Failover Management: Upon approval, ADR will return the IT system stack to operational status. This may be a recovery of primary (i.e. the same location), or failover from the primary location to a secondary location.
- Failback Management: The organization can opt to build corresponding automated processes to failback an IT system from secondary location to primary location when the fault at the primary location has been fixed. This makes regular testing of procedures a practical proposition.
Using Enigmatec Automated Disaster Recovery, Enterprise customers have seen dramatic reduction in the return to operation (RTO) time, clearly defined and documented processes and procedures, and testing of Disaster Recovery on a regular basis.
